A hallmark of Asia Policy
Point is its hosting of programs that examine emerging policy issues
in innvoative ways. Speakers are often outside Washington scholars
with expertise specific to the topic of discussion. Often our speakers
discuss emerging trends that have yet to be recognized or noticed
in the policy community.
On a number of occasions, the in-depth knowledge of our speakers has helped with the formulation of U.S. policy toward Asia. Examples include the Japanese steel industry, Japanese telecom policy, Japanese healthcare, Japanese antitrust policy, and intellectual property in Asia.
APP assists its speaker-members in preparing their research for public presentations to the Washington policy community. Often these scholars have a specialized knowledge on critical topics not readily found in Washington. APP also arranges for these experts to meet privately with relevant U.S. government policy officials .
Many of our speaker programs are co-hosted with other research centers and organizations. APP has worked collaboratively on programs with the University of New Mexico, University of Hawaii, Sigur Center for Asian Studies, U.S. Commerce Department, U.S Patent and Trademark Office, U.S. Library of Congress, Sidley Austin LLP, and Keidanren
APP's Public Policy Speaker programs range from brown bag lunches featuring new authors to day-long conferences of cutting-edge research on Asian ecoomic issues by international experts. You can find detailed information about our past programs under the Events section of this website.
