Program Assistant Position

US-Japan Policy

The Asia Policy Point is looking for an energetic, imaginative, motivated person with excellent organizational skills, a sense of humor and joie de vivre who is committed to learning about Japan and US-Japan relations.

We are a small nonprofit research center studying Japanese and Northeast Asian science, security, foreign, and public policy. The Project publishes a twice-weekly electronic newsletter and occasional research reports, as well as holds briefings and conferences on critical US-Japan issues for the US policy community. The position is an excellent introduction to Washington Japan policy environment.

We need a full-time assistant to perform the following duties:

  • Assist Director with scheduling, logistics, travel arrangements, fundraising and correspondence
  • Perform general administrative, computer-related, and bookkeeping duties
  • Oversee member relations and services and maintain membership/Asia experts databases
  • Assist with the editing, production, and mailing of publications
  • Monitor issues affecting US policy toward Japanese trade, technology, and security
  • Organize programs for trade, security, and technology officials
  • Work with interns and be a flexible general assistant to a very overworked director

 

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • BA degree in related field (Japan or East Asia) or a background and deep interest in international politics and/or international economics. Excellent GPA
  • Must be comfortable with a range of computer programs and the Internet
  • Must have had previous Washington-internship experience. Ability to balance multiple tasks, to be detail oriented, and to work under pressure and independently
  • Japanese language skills a plus, but not necessary. Fluent English skills

 

Compensation: Low-to-mid 20s, but experience taken into consideration (room for advancement). Appropriate benefits.
