RESEARCH ASSISTANT

Research Assistant Position

The Japan Information Access Project is looking for an energetic, motivated person with a sense of humor who is committed to learning about Japan and US-Japan relations.

We are a small nonprofit research center studying Japanese and Northeast Asian information in business, science, technology, security, and public policy. The Project publishes a weekly email report, a research newsletter, and occasional research reports, as well as holds briefings and conferences on critical US-Japan issues.

We need a full-time research associate to perform the following duties:

  • Assist with the editing, research, production, and mailing of newsletters, policy briefs, and conference proceedings
  • Monitor and report on issues affecting US policy toward Japan and Northeast Asian trade, technology, and security
  • Research sources of US-Japan trade, political, security, and technology information
  • Organize programs and briefings for US trade, security, and technology officials
  • Perform general administrative and office duties

  • Minimum Job Requirements:

  • MA and BA degree in related field (Japan or East Asia) or has a background and a deep interest in international politics and/or international economics
  • Must be comfortable with a wide range of computer programs and the Internet
  • Ability to learn quickly, to balance multiple tasks, and to work under pressure and independently. Willing to be flexible and to work in a small, personal office.
  • Fluent Japanese language skills and knowledge of Japanese and American politics. Must be able to do research in Japanese and read government documents

    Compensation:
    Mid to high-20s, appropriate benefits
