PROGRAM ASSISTANT

Program Assistant Position

The Japan Information Access Project is looking for an energetic, motivated person with a sense of humor who is committed to learning about Japan and US-Japan relations.

We are a small nonprofit research center studying Japanese and Northeast Asian information in business, science, technology, security, and public policy. The Project publishes a weekly email report, a research newsletter, and occasional research reports, as well as holds briefings and conferences on critical US-Japan issues.

We need a full-time assistant to perform the following duties:

  • Assist Director and with scheduling, logistics, travel arrangements, fundraising and correspondence
  • Perform general administrative, computer support, and bookkeeping duties.
  • Oversee Member relations and services and maintain membership and Asia experts databases
  • Assist with the editing, production, and mailing of newsletters
  • Monitor issues affecting US policy toward Japanese trade, technology, and security
  • Organize programs for trade, security, and technology officials
  • Work with interns and be a flexible general assistant to a very overworked director

  • Minimum Job Requirements:

  • BA degree in related field (Japan or East Asia) or has a background and deep interest in international politics and/or international economics
  • Must be comfortable with a range of computer programs and the Internet
  • Must have had previous Washington-internship experience. Ability to balance multiple tasks and to work under pressure and independently
  • Japanese language skills a plus, but not necessary. Fluent English skills.

    Compensation:
    Low-to-mid 20s, but experience taken into consideration (room for advancement). Appropiate benefits
