| The “Asia Group” is
a private, informal discussion forum for women military and economic
security professionals. The objective is to broaden the perspectives
and contacts of women in the Asia security policy community. The
membership is limited to women experts on all aspects of Asia security
matters. Membership is open to all nationalities and journalists.
The discussion is off-the-record. The organizers
of Asia Group are Mindy Kotler (Asia Policy Point) and Barbara
Wanner (East-West Center). The discussions are held over “tea” on
Sundays at a member's home.
The Asia Group
tries to meet approximately every six weeks and features a brief
presentation by woman professional on her current work or research.
Recent speakers include, Evelyn Farkas (Senate Armed Services Committee),
Yuki Tatsumi (Stimson Center), Katy Oh (Institute for Defense Analyses),
Emily Goldman (University of California, Davis), Elizabeth Guran
(Government Accountability Office), Chia-Hui "Emily" Yuan
(Cross-Strait Interflow Prospect Foundation, Taiwan), and Masako
Ikegami-Andersson (Center for Pacific Asia Studies,
Stockholm University.

The Asia Group was established in May 2001 and is currently voluntary and unfunded. We are seeking funding to enhance this program's activities.
