The Rise of Japan’s Thought Police by Steven C. Clemons, New America Foundation, The Washington Post, August 27, 2006.

September 2006

The conservative Bungei Shunju featured an article in its September 2006, pgs. 126-135, “China Tries to Attack the Yushukan (Yasukuni History Museum) [Chugoku ga Shikakeru Yushukan Sensou]," which quotes APP members Banning Garrett, Alan Tonelson, and APP Director Mindy Kotler. Ms. Kotler got in the last word, by warning that although the Yasukuni issue has not received a lot of attention in the West, the fuss it has created has awakened a curiosity about Japan and the Pacific War. This is reminding Americans and others of Japan’s wartime brutality. Deifying 14 convicted war criminals who instigated the war soon may be the least of Japan’s history problems with the West.
