Asian Science and Technology Forum
(AST Forum, formerly the Pentagon Study Group On Japan)

The Asian Science & Technology Forum (AST Forum, formerly the Pentagon Study Group on Japan) is a discussion group designed for Pentagon officials and selected members of the U.S. policymaking community on U.S.-Japan technology, security, and trade issues and trends. Study Group participation is limited to American citizens and by invitation only.

The AST Forum is funded by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Office of International Programs. The new series was initiated in April 1999 and now includes discussion of regional technology and security issues. The meetings are distributed to all Air Force laboratories in a CD-ROM format.

The AST Forum was first formed in cooperation with the U.S.-Japan Center, University City Science Center (UCSC), Philadelphia, The U.S. Japan Center was one of the 12 U.S. Air Force-funded research centers to study Japanese science and technology management. The AST Forum was formerly produced in cooperation with the Japan-US Friendship Commission.
